At a glance
For three days in Marrakech, combine a palace and medina day, a day around craftsmanship and food, and a flexible day for your interests. Leave time between outings and confirm visits or separately arranged experiences.
Make room for the city
Marrakech rewards a little planning and a little space between plans. Treat this as a flexible starting point, not a timetable. Check current opening days and arrangements before setting out, and ask the team to adapt the route to your interests.
Day one: palaces and the medina
Begin around Bahia and El Badi, close to the riad. Choose the palace visits that interest you, then let the walk lead toward the souks. Return for lunch or a pause in the courtyard before exploring Jemaa el-Fna later in the day. A rooftop drink back at the riad makes a natural end.
Day two: craftsmanship and the table
Give the morning to the medina’s materials, shops and makers. A guided walk or personal-shopping arrangement can make this more purposeful. If you enjoy cooking, ask whether a class fits your stay. Spend the rest of the afternoon at your own pace, with time for the plunge pools or a treatment arranged in advance.
Day three: follow your interests
You could return to a favourite corner, explore the city’s museums, or discuss an outing toward the Atlas with the team. A balloon experience needs separate arrangements and suitable conditions. Longer desert journeys toward Zagora or Merzouga should not be squeezed into a city afternoon; plan them as a separate part of your trip.
When to visit Marrakech
Spring and autumn are often the most comfortable seasons for long days on foot. Summer can be very hot, so plan walks for the morning and evening and keep the middle of the day for the riad. Winter days are often mild and sunny, but nights can be cold. During Ramadan, whose dates change each year, some opening hours and the rhythm of the city change too, so ask the team for advice if your dates fall in that period.
Practical tips for getting around
The medina is best explored on foot, with comfortable shoes. Carry some Moroccan dirhams in cash for small purchases, taxis and tips, as cards are not accepted everywhere. If a stranger offers to show you the way, you may be asked for money afterwards; a clear map or a guide arranged in advance avoids this. For trips outside the medina, agree the fare before getting into a taxi.
If you have a fourth day
A fourth day makes it easier to leave the city. Popular day trips include the Ourika and Zat valleys, the Atlas villages around Imlil, the Agafay desert, the Ouzoud waterfalls, the kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou and the coastal town of Essaouira. These are long days, often between seven and eleven hours, so plan a calm evening afterwards. Riad Tajania can arrange these excursions on request; details and prices are on the activities page.
Evenings in Marrakech
Evenings change the mood of the city. Jemaa el-Fna fills with food stalls, musicians and storytellers as the light fades. You might prefer a quiet dinner on the terrace, a meal arranged by the riad, or a restaurant in the medina. If you are walking back late, ask the team for the simplest route, and keep the address and phone number with you.
Travelling with older children or a group
Groups and families move more slowly through narrow lanes and busy souks, so plan fewer stops each day. Agree a meeting point in case anyone gets separated. A guided half-day walk on the first morning can help everyone get their bearings. Remember that Riad Tajania welcomes guests aged 16 and over, and that a group of up to eight can book the whole riad.
Before you leave
Shape your last day around your flight. Your transfer and arranged experiences are settled in advance, leaving time for one more tea on the rooftop. If you would like help choosing your suite or planning your arrival, our team is happy to advise before you book.
